DIASPORA PROFESSIONAL ENGAGING FOR A GREEN TRANSITION

Our Diaspora Professional Adhurim Haxhimusa engaged at BONEVET Prishtina, was invited to give an Inspirational Talk for this institution’s youngsters. And inspirational indeed he was! Adhurim’s career journey, expertise, and passion for energy profoundly moved the audience, reflecting not only his dedication to hard work and his field, but also his shared commitment with BONEVET to educate, inspire and empower young minds.

Adhurim’s collaboration with BONEVET began with a shared vision for education and sustainability. Through GERMIN, his expertise in energy is connected with BONEVET’s efforts to develop a Renewable Energy Curriculum and Training. Adhurim is now a member of the team behind developing this programme and contributing by reviewing materials, drafting the curriculum, and identifying stakeholders and training opportunities. This project aligns closely with Adhurim’s professional background and his dedication to the energy sector.

Adhurim’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. From a capable child, to a working student, to a faculty staff member. As a scientist at the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons in Switzerland, his academic accomplishments are adorned with distinctions. With a PhD and publications in prestigious academic journals like Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and Energy Economics, his contributions to energy and environmental economics are globally recognized. Adhurim maintained his connection to Kosovo, serving as a working group member for the Kosovo National Energy and Climate Plan, a Visiting Professor, and now a diaspora professional engaged with BONEVET Prishtina.

When approached by GERMIN to voluntarily collaborate with BONEVET, Adhurim didn’t hesitate one bit. A three-way meeting between GERMIN, Adhurim, and BONEVET stretched over two and a half hours—and could have gone on even longer. His curiosity and intellectual rigor shone through as he dived into discussions about education and the evolving trends and future needs in energy.

But as we shared, it isn’t just his technical contributions that are and will leave a mark. Adhurim was invited to address BONEVET’s young participants — some as young as early ten, others nearing thirty — to share his career journey and the challenges he faced along the way. Yet, true to his modest and ethical nature, Adhurim spent only a brief moment speaking about himself, to message the importance of hard work, and the rest of his time was dedicated to a heartfelt call to action for environmental protection. Adhurim spoke about the finite resources of our planet, the decisions each of us makes every day, and our collective responsibility toward the public good. Adhurim's words weren’t just educational—they were deeply reflective, urging each listener to consider their role in safeguarding the environment.

Adhurim shared that he was concerned about the diversity in the room — how to explain and engage a 10 year old alongside a 28 year old? However, despite these unnoticed initial nerves, Adhurim’s fears proved unfounded. Not one participant left the room. On the contrary, the energy in the room was palpable as questions poured in, signaling the young audience’s eagerness to learn and engage. For Adhurim and all of us, this was proof that BONEVET is on the right path to its mission, nurturing ambitious, forward-thinking leaders.

As the session drew to a close, Adhurim emphasized a bold yet necessary truth: the energy transition is neither easy nor optional—it is imperative. He called on everyone, from individuals to institutions, to take responsibility for creating a clean, sustainable future.

This collaboration is a shining example of what happens when passionate diaspora professionals like Adhurim join forces with visionary organizations like BONEVET. The warm welcome he received, the hard work and the learning environment of BONEVET further fueled his enthusiasm. Together, they are setting the stage for a greener future, powered by knowledge, innovation, and a shared commitment to the public good.
